INDIA'S DESERT STATE

Rajasthan, India’s desert state, was once a collection of princely kingdoms where feudal traditions still carry on amidst forts and palace hotels.

JAIPUR is the capital of Rajasthan named after Maharaja Jai Singh who designed and founded the city in local rose pink stone in 1727.

JODHPUR was founded in 1459 by Prince Jodha. This is the land of the valiant Rathore Kings. It is a walled with seven gates at the foot of the citadel studded with lakes, palaces and temples

UDAIPUR was founded in 1568 by Maharana Udai Singh. Udaipur is a beautiful city of lakes, Palaces and fountains.Udaipur is shielded by a rocky spur of hill and protected by easily defendable formidable battlements.

JAISALMER situated in the heart of the desert, is surrounded by sand-dunes which rendered the sand coloured fort impregnable. Nothing else in India is remotely similar to this enchanting city, which has been dubbed ‘the Golden City’ because of the honey colour imparted to its stone ramparts by the setting sun

AJMER – Just over 130 Km South-West of Jaipur is Ajmer, a burgeoning town on the shore of the Ana Sagar, flanked by barren hills. Ajmer is famous For India’s most important places for Muslim pilgrims – the Dargah which is a tomb of a Sufi saint, Khwaja Muin-ud-din Chishti, who came to Ajmer from Persia in 1192.

PUSHKAR - Amongst the grandeur of Rajasthan discover a unique gem-Pushkar. Brahma-the Creator of the world, in his quest to discover the holiest place on earth dropped the lotus flower here. MOUNT ABU – Mt.Abu, in the far south of Rajasthan, close to the Gujarat border, is Rajasthan’ only hill station. It’s a pleasant hot-season rtrat from the plains of both Rajasthan and Gujarat. Mt.Abu has a number of important temples, particularly the breathtaking Dilwara group of Jain Temples.

BIKANER – Bikaner too has echoes of the past in its sandstone palace, temples and cenotaphs. Bikaner has some wonderful Jain temples and an atmospheric old city. Its also a good base for camel safaris and for visiting the extraordinary Karni Mata Temple, 30 km to the south, where thousands of holy rates are worshipped.
